“The Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award returns to champion the best albums of 2012 and to celebrate the enduring links between music and art, through its innovative Art Commission. The SAY Art Commission has been created alongside the music award to support some of the most promising art graduates from Scotland’s four principal art schools…” CCA website
2013 SAY Art Commission was jointly awarded to Emma Reid and Gregor Morrison.
I made two new works to install in the SAY Art Commission exhibition:
A gallery space. On the left, a plinth stands with an off-white plaster sphere. The sphere is sitting in a small indent in the plinth and the sphere appears to have small holes in it. This is the work titled 'Hold'. On the right a hand and foot reach into the frame, they are seen projected onto the floor beneath in a circular projection. That is the work titled 'Spotlight'Foreground:
hold cast plaster object on plinth : Herculite plaster, acrylic mirror, MDF plinth with indentation and text ‘please lift’. The plaster sphere is 120mm in diameter.
Background, right:
spotlight live-feed video projection onto the floor : projector, single camera colour cctv system, mirror, floor. The projection is approximately 1.5m in diameter.
Background, left:
Gregor Morrison’s sculpture, one of the two works he installed for the exhibition.

A close up of 'Hold' shows that one of the holes in the sphere goes all the way through acting like a peephole.
